u
CITY OF ARDEl'i HILLS
MEMORAl'iDUM
DATE: November 6, 1996 -
TO: All Committee Members ~.
FROM: Dwayne Stafford, Public \\lorks Superintendent
SUBJECT: Water Supply Security
Dud.;~"ouI1J
The City of Arden Hills has two hydropillar style water towers and one water pumping station.
The hydropilbr type water towers are the type of tower which is completely enclosed under the
t~nk itself, hence no ladders or structural parts are visabk Inside the bottom enclosed area there
are storage areas where winter equipment, plows etc. are stored during the summer and summer
equipment such as; mowers etc. are stored all winter. Also, on this area are the ladders which
lead to the top of each tower and the hatch to access the water tank itself.
The South Tower (1,000,000 gallon) is filled by the City of Roseville and serves the areas of
Arden Hills South of Interstate 694. The north tower which serves the higher areas of Arden
Hills North of 694 is filled by the City booster pumps, which pump from the southern system.
Security
Currently the only security on the two water towers and the booster station are standard door -
knobs, with key locks. There are no dead bolts, no alarm system, no lights around doors and no
fence.
Discussing this issue with Committee Member Mark Stack at last months tour, Mr. Stack pointed
out this type of lock could easily be compromised. -
Recom mcndation -
The Public Works Superintendent recommends the Public WorkslPublic Safety Committee I
evaluate the current water supply security and make recommendations for additional security, as
the Public Works Superintendent feels what the City currently has is inadequate.
.
I
I
.
-.
I
