NOVOvt U<2J c:...u, I~)'[ 10
p", 61,~ Sc..f-1v
Dwayne brought up other common problems with installing new signs: f-'.I...."+~c;
e l. If one street gets a sign it is difficult to turn down any other street that request one.
7 It's often difficult to find a resident that will accept the sign being placed in their o\vn
yard.
The City also does not have the resources to patrol the street effectively to cite the speeders. At
this point the Committee does not feel a sign should be installed in this situation, especially since
there is no special circumstances, such as a handicapped child in the area. The general feeling
was that the parents must monitor and control the children's activities when they're playing
around or on the streets, The Committee members did agree to drive through the area to get a
clearer understanding of the particular situation. We will reserve final judgement until after these
observations have been made.
Water supplv Security
Dwayne had concerns about their safety and security of the cities water towers. Are they as
tamper proof as we would like. Currently, the only security is rather cheap locks on the access
doors to the towers. John promoted upgrading the locks and Craig said that an alarm system
should be used in conjunction with any upgrades to the locks. Arnie suggested better lighting at
-~ the entries to the towers to further discourage breaking and entering. The Committee asked
Dwayne to look into options for an alarm system and lock upgrade so that a proposal could be
made to Council. Craig also reminded us that a security system like this is somewhat
meaningless if there is not a documented policy to define the actions to be taken if the system is
- set off or breached.
School Bus Loiterinf! on Old Snellinf!
Bill mentioned that busses often park along the side of Old Snelling just north of Lindy's. The
drivers apparently like to relax here, in the 7:00-7:30 a.m. time frame, between pick-ups. Bill
- said that this could create a dangerous traffic situation. John will report this so that an officer can
- investigate the situation.
I Snow Plows Covering Hvdrants
I Bill also mentioned that the large winged snow plows have more of a tendency to cover fire
hydrants at intersections and wondered if smaller plows could be used at the intersections.
Dwayne said that it becomes a matter of how much time you want to spend plowing a given
I location. The Committee is not sure exactly what was resolved here, but it's probably a case of
keeping hydrants as accessible as necessary with the minimal amount of effort.
I
Ie
I
I
