CITY OF ARDEN HILLS
- MEMORANDUM
DATE: February 12, 1997
TO: Brian Fritsinger, City Administrator ~S.
FROM:
Dwayne Stafford, Public Works Superintendent .'
SUBJECT: Infrastructure Plan File
Background
The City of Arden Hills Infrastructure Plan File has been in existence since the early 1960's when
the first utility construction begin in the City. Nearly all of the as-built drawings are the originals
supplied by the engineer after construction.
Today these drawings are in extremely bad condition, portions of pages missing, most are tom,
some illegible and in no special order. Also, a number of the later projects, such as; Colleen
Court have never been added to the file, which makes it difficult to do any research or locations
working off of these drawings.
- Updatin~
The Public Works Superintendent asked the City Engineer to provide the City with a
recommendation conceming this issue. As noted in the attached memorandum, MSA has
reproducible copies of the Cities as-built drawings. MSA estimates the number of drawings to
be between 1,000 and 1,200. These drawings could be reproduced and consolidated into specific
groups with sequential numbering for easy reference.
- .{;'Qill
MSA states the cost of reproducing the City Plan File, and arranging them in an easy to reference
I manor using master plans would be approximately $9,700. Although this is an unbudgeted item,
staff expects that these costs could be divided equally among the street, storm water, water, and
I sanitary sewer engineering service fees.
Recommendation
I The Public Works Superintendent recommends Council's approval to order from MSA copies of
all City streets, stormsewer, water and sanitary sewer as built drawings, and included with these
drawings would be master plans of each utility with reference to individual drawings.
I
I
I-
I
