<br /> I <br /> I <br /> I- 3. At least one person shall stand by outside the confined space ready to give <br /> assistance in case of emergency. <br /> a. The stand-by person shall have approved respiratory equipment (SCBA 15 <br /> I min. air pac available for immediate use.) <br /> b. The stand-by person may enter the space only after notitying an <br /> I emergency response team, having a stand-by person available, and only <br /> after donning the required personal protective equipment (SCBA). <br /> I c. Visual, voice or signal line communications shall be maintained between <br /> individuals within the confmed space and the stand-by person(s). <br /> I 4. When an entry must be made through a top opening the following requirements <br /> will apply: <br /> I a. The safety harness shall be of the type that suspends a person in the <br /> uVril!ht position. <br /> I b. An approved hoisting device or other effective means must be used to lift <br /> workers out of the space in an emergency. <br /> .. A confined space entry permit is reauired prior to entry. <br /> c. <br /> I 5. Hot work is prohibited if the flammability level is 10% of lower explosive level <br /> I (LEL) or greater. <br /> 6. At least one person trained in first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (C.P.R.) <br /> I shall be immediately available whenever respiratory equipment is required. <br /> V. EMERGENCIES <br /> I If an emergency situation arises, the observer is not to enter the confined snace excent as <br /> provided below. In all cases the observer must: <br /> I A. Request assistance immediately from fire department, police, rescue squad or other <br /> maintenance personnel via the radio system or telephone. <br /> I <br /> B. Return immediately to the confined space and continue ventilation until assistance <br /> I arrives. <br /> fI 4 <br /> I <br />
