<br /> I <br /> I M. Welding <br /> ,. I. Welding equipment shall be chosen for safe application to the work and <br /> shall be installed properly. Employees designated to operate welding <br /> equipment shall be properly instructed and qualified to operate it. <br /> I 2. Mechanical ventilation shall be provided when welding or cutting: <br /> I a. Beryllium, cadmium, lead, zinc or mercury, <br /> b. Fluxes, metal coatings, or other material containing fluorine <br /> I compounds, <br /> c. Where there is less than 10,000 cubic feet per welder, <br /> I d. Where the overhead height is less than 16 feet, <br /> I e. In confined spaces. <br /> I 3. Proper shielding and eye protection to prevent exposure of personnel from <br /> welding hazards shall be provided. <br /> Ie 4. Proper precautions (isolating welding and cutting, removing fire hazards <br /> from vicinity, providing a fire watch, etc.) for fire protection shall be taken <br /> in areas where welding or other "Hot Work" is being done. <br /> I s. Work and electrode lead cables shall be frequently inspected. Cables with <br /> damaged insulation or exposed bare conductors shall be replaced. <br /> I N. Cylinders Used in Welding <br /> I I. Compressed gas cylinders shall be kept away from excessive heat, shall <br /> not be stored where they might be damaged or knocked over by passing or <br /> I falling objects, and shall be stored at least 20 feet away from highly <br /> combustible materials. <br /> I 2. Where a cylinder is designed to accept a valve protection cap, caps shall <br /> be in place except when the cylinder is in use or is connected for use. <br /> I 3. Oxygen and Acetylene cylinders shall be stored and used in a vertical, <br /> valve-end up position only. <br /> I 4. Oxygen cylinders in storage shall be separated from fuel-gas cylinders or . <br /> combustible materials (especially oil or grease) a minimum distance of20 <br /> t- feet or by a non-combustible barrier at least 5 feet high having a fire <br /> resistance rating of a least 1/2 hour. <br /> 18 <br /> I <br />
