__n____________ --- --------
~. A.
can take as many of the trees as we need for projects. He is hoping to help the City out by _I
donating the trees and at the same time get some positive publicity for giving the trees to the
City, The majority of the trees are 12-15 feet or taller. I was hoping that there would be some 6-
8 feet tall trees, but there are very few in this category, I am recommending that the City I
consider transplanting some of these spruce trees along Highway 96 at the time of reconstruction.
I would also like to use some of the trees in our park areas. I
I have contacted Evergreen Tree Service to get a price quote on transplanting costs. They
normally charge $150-$175 per tree for 1 or 3 trees, However, they will transplant the trees for I
approximately $85 if we do 25,50 trees, As a staff, we can begin to consider the various options
for transplanting these trees, It is obviously more cost effective to hire a tree service to transplant
the trees at the same time even if they are being planted in different areas, .
Sheehy Tennis Court Lease
Todd Albertson from the Arden Hills #3 Association has paid the $10,00 lease agreement price .
for the Tennis Court on the previous Sheehy property. The association will be repairing the court
and will install a combination lock for their members,
Day in the Park I
The Day in the Park celebration was a success, We have received favorable feedback from
several residents who enjoyed the entertainment and activities, The cost of the event $997.20, .
Next year's celebration is planned at Hazelnut Park to highlight the new play structure.
Tonv Schmidt Park Redevelopment .-
I have talked with Greg Mack about involving Arden Hills residents in the redevelopment
process, The process will most likely include Arden Hills appointing a task force made up of the .
following people: two Ramsey County Parks and Recreation Commission members, two Arden
Hills P & R Commission members, two members of the Lake Johanna Association, two at large
Arden Hills residents, and two members from the Friends of Ramsey County (possibly from .
other cities in Ramsey County), This group would help with developing the master plan for
redevelopment. There would also be one or two meetings with residents to receive input after
the master plan has been established, Ramsey County anticipates contacting the City to begin I
this process in the fall.
V andalism I
The City parks have received a lot of vandalism in the last 3 weeks, We have had signs, tennis
and basketball courts and play structures painted with obscene language and symbols, soccer nets I
taken, and picnic tables broken, The majority of the damage done to picnic tables is from in-line
skaters and skateboarders. They use the tables to skate on and jump over.
Pro~m Re.port .
Tracy has been working on the 1997 North Suburban Youth Safety Camp. The camp is a
cooperative effort with the Cities of New Brighton and Shoreview as well as the Ramsey County I
Sheriff, The camp will be held on August 13 and 14 at the Shoreview Community Center and
2 ..
I
----
