RE: REVIEW OF SANITARY SEWER TELEVISING
. Dear Mr. Stafford:
We have had an opportunity to review some of the video tapes and the report prepared by
. Infratech, Inc. and have the following comments and recommendations.
In general the sewer lines inspected were in fair to good structural condition but there are
.- numerous leaking joints, areas of significant root intrusions, and some cracked and broken pipes.
We have attached an exhibit with the subareas and the problem segments identified.
. Residential Area
Approximately 8,000 feet of 8 inch and 18 inch vitirfied clay pipe (VCP) in the residential area west
. and southwest of Lake Johanna appeared to have some joint problems. The pipe segments
appear sound, but there are roots growing through many of the joints, suggesting that there may
be some openings. Some of the roots were dripping but the majority appeared to be rather stable.
. In these areas we would recommend removal of the root clumps by cleaning and then applying a
root treatment chemical to try and reduce the future growth. Cleaning will improve the flow
characteristics and the treatment is normally successful in reducing future root obstruction
. problems. This type of cleaning may cost about $2.00 per foot with some chemical treatment for
roots.
. Com cost Site Easement
This area includes approximately 1720 feet of 15 inch diameter reinforced concrete pipe (RCP),
. and nine manholes. The pipe structure appears to be relatively sound but many of the joints show
signs of minor leaking and some of the joints have significant leaks. In addition, most of the
manholes ( 8 of 9) were observed to be leaking. This area appears to have a very high
. groundwater table relative to the sanitary sewer line so we would anticipate that the leaking occurs
throughout the year.
.- Normally, with leaks of this type a "test and seal" program would be appropriate. However, access
to the sewer line is very difficult and it may not be possible to mobilize the equipment to complete
. 1326 Energy Park Drive. 5t.
