<br /> CITY OF ARDEN HILLS <br /> _ MEMORANDUM <br /> DATE: August 11, 1997 <br /> TO: Mayor and City Council <br /> FROM: Kevin Ringwald, Community Development Director ~ <br /> SUBJECT: Case #97-17, Sale of City Property <br /> City of Arden Hills, 305 14th Street NE <br /> - Introduction <br /> The Planning Commission is forwarding its recommendation which finds that the sale of certain <br /> - City property in the Gateway Business District (GBD) is in compliance with the City's <br /> - Comprehensive Plan (Exhibit A) as required by Section 20-24 (a), (2), of the City Code. <br /> - Backl!round <br /> - Pursuant to the City Code in Section 20-24 (a), (2), the Planning Commission reviews the sale <br /> - (disposal) of City lands to determine if the sale is in compliance with the City's Comprehensive <br /> Plan (Exhibit B). The Planning Commission on Wednesday, August 6, 1997, unanimously <br /> - found that the proposed sale of City property to facilitate the proposed development in Planning <br /> -_ Case 97-06 is in compliance with the City's Comprehensive Plan. <br /> I The subject property was the former site of the Kem Milling rendering plant. The City <br /> purchased the property in 1989 to eliminate the nuisance and to facilitate the development of the <br /> I GBD. After the City purchased the property the buildings of the former Kern Milling rendering <br /> plant were razed. The City has been working with Welsh Companies over the past two years on <br /> development within the GBD. The Planning Commission on July 2, 1997 recommended <br /> I approval of Planning Case 97-06 to the City Council. The City Council on July 14,1997 <br /> approved Planning Case 97-06. Planning Case 97-06 involved the development of a three phase <br /> industrial development which includes the City property. The property is designated as <br /> I Industrial in the City's Comprehensive Plan and its intended use is for Industrial <br /> (Office/Manufacturing/Warehousing). Therefore, the Planning Commission and Staff have <br /> concluded that the sale of the City property to facilitate the development proposed in Planning <br /> I Case 97-06 is in compliance \vith the City's Comprehensive Plan. <br /> Recommendation <br /> I The Planning Commission recommends that the City Council accept its recommendation which <br /> finds that the proposed sale of City property to facilitate the proposed development in Planning <br /> Case 97-06 is in compliance with the City's Comprehensive Plan. <br /> I <br /> i' <br /> I <br />
