CALL TO ORDER <br /> The meeting was called to order by chairman John Tholen at 7: 13 p.m. <br /> 2. ROLL CALL <br /> Present were: Lyn La\vyer, Highway 96 resident; Chuck Stoddard, Finance <br /> Committee; John Tholen, Public Safety Commission; Kevin Ringwald, Community <br /> Development Director; Dwayne Stafford, Public Works Superintendent; Larry <br /> Holmberg, Ramsey County Parks, Planning & Development, James Tolaas, <br /> Highway 96 Project Engineer; and Mr. Bill Sanders, Landscape Architect for <br /> Sanders, Wacker & Bergly Inc.; Mayor Dennis Probst; Council member, Beverly <br /> Aplikowski; Terry Post, City Accountant; Don Messerly, Parks and Recreation <br /> Commission; Cindy Walsh, Director of Parks and Recreation; and City <br /> Administrator, Brian Fritsinger. <br /> Absent were: Tom Andreasen, Business Development Committee; Mick <br /> Richardson, resident; and David Sand, Planning Commission. -- <br /> 3. APPROVAL OF JUNE 25. 1997 MINUTES <br /> The minutes of the June 25,1997 meeting were approved with the correction of the - <br /> spelling ofLyn Lawyer's name. - <br /> 4. DISCUSSION ON CONSULTANT TO ASSIST WITH CITY I <br /> Mr. Ringwald introduced Mr. Bill Sanders and gave some background on Mr. <br /> Sanders. Mr. Sanders presented additional background on himself and his company. I <br /> Mr. Sanders presented sample drawings of welcome signs his firm has designed for <br /> other Cities and explained the make-up of the signs. Prices ranged from $1,000 for <br /> smaller wooden models to $20,000 for a large concrete and stone model with a I <br /> planting area. A discussion with various ideas followed. Some significant points <br /> which most people agreed on were: <br /> . Don't try to match Shoreview sign for size. I <br /> . Set Arden Hills' own image. <br /> . Keep quietly elegant yet flexible enough to use in various locations. I <br /> . Don't do anything others (businesses etc.) wouldn't be allowed to do. <br /> . Incorporate some type of logo within the sign. <br /> . Enhance sign with landscaping and possible berm. I <br /> .
