I
I CITY OF ARDEN HILLS
i' MEMORANDUM
DATE: August 14, 1997
I TO: Brian Fritsinger, City Administrator
I FROM: Cindy S. Walsh, Parks and Recreation Director
SUBJECT: August Monthly Report
I Trail Sealcoating
I The trail areas around Floral and Cummings Park are scheduled to be sealcoated with the slurry
seal by the end of August. These trail areas have been crack sealed and cleaned off in
preparation for applying the slurry mix.
I Dama2:e to Trail
During the construction ofa retaining wall at 4308 Colleen Court, the contractor of the project,
I damaged the trail. They were using a backhoe and a skid steer to construct the wall. When I
approached the foreman, he informed me that the damage was done by the backhoe prior to his
arrival. I was told to contact the developer, John Gurtek. The skid steer was parked on the trail
Ie at the time and I asked him not to use the trail as an access.
I am in the process of obtaining cost estimates to repair the damage. I have also written a letter
I to John Gurtek informing him that he is responsible for the cost of repairing the damage.
I Trail Grant Application for Countv Road F
I have been informed by the Minnesota DNR that they received 32 requests for funding totaling
$1,000,000. They received $200,000 from the legislature to distribute to grant recipients. The
I top four projects will receive funding. Unfortunately, our project is fifth. However, should one
or more of the first priority projects fail to go to contract or withdraw from the program, funds
will be available for our project. I will keep you informed as I receive additional information.
I We lost points because the proposed trail does not directly connect to a regional park.
Round Lake Trail
I I met with a representative from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service on August 5. We walked the
future trail route in an attempt to identify the approximate location for a trail. I was able to
determine that it would be beneficial to acquire 20 feet property on the east side of their
I development from Welsh as a portion of their park dedication requirement. This 20 feet would
not satisfy their park dedication requirement if the Council decides to follow past practice and
I require 10% for commercial development. I intend to have the trail area surveyed in the fall. It
will be much easier for the survey crew to get their equipment set up once the leaves have fallen
off the trees.
"
I
v
