.
In addition to the Welsh dedication, we will need to acquire property for a trail when the I
Indykiewicz area is developed. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife property that abuts Indykiewicz is ..
wetland and not suitable for trail development. Thus, the trail will not be able to be constructed
until the northern Gateway Development property has been acquired.
Parks and Recreation Commission I
The Parks and Recreation Commission will meet on August 26 to finish their park tours. They
will then begin to discuss future improvements. I expect the Commission to prioritize their I
recommended improvements for future Park Fund expenditures.
Program Update I
The fall recreation guide was mailed out to the residents on August 13. Fall youth soccer will
begin in late August with games starting on Saturday, September 6. In 1996, the City had 200
kids registered for the program. We anticipate a similar number this year. Fall adult softball also I
begins in late August.
Safety Camp was held on August 13 and 14. There were 115 kids from Arden Hills, Shoreview, I
and New Brighton who participated in the camp. Penny Carnival was held on July 25. It was a
huge success with over 150 kids who came to Perry Park. We received donations from several I
businesses to help make this event better than ever. HB Fuller also donated volunteers to help
run the events.
Park Maintenance ~
The maintenance staff has been trimming along the trails in preparation for the application of
slurry seal. The equipment that applies the seal needs at least a one foot clearance on each side I
of the trail. In addition to the routine mowing, trimming, and ballfield maintenance, they have
also
been repairing some of the field areas that are in need of sod or seeding. I
Tonv Schmidt Park Redevelooment Task Force
I have not had any recent conversations with County officials about the project. However, I have I
received seven applications for the task force appointment.
I
I
I
I
-.
I
