-
-
The South (Red Fox) Water Tower was drained over the weekend and Odland Contractors is -
doing the repair work this week and next. Under these circumstances, the City is sharing a tlI-
Roseville Tower as they share ours when their tower is down.
Public Works Staff and Mr. Post had elected to keep the City's 87 Ford plow late last winter ~
when the new plow arrived and put it in the State Surplus Auction this fall. Astleford Equipment
Company of Savage, Minnesota had offered the City $12,700, for this unit in August, but we I
gambled on the auction. Public Works cleaned it all up, mounted the plow and sander and it
went for $20,500. This sure works better than advertising for bids and getting few. The old I
roller sold for $1,400, while the trailer brought $125. The trailer was in pretty bad shape. The
bad news on the auction is the state takes 7 percent for the auction costs, which will amount to
$1542. -
The Public Works Superintendent has recently met with Hardrives and NSP representatives on ~
restoration problems. Council is aware of the equipment parking and damage to the Cleveland I
Avenue and County Road E-2 area.
NSP recently was issued a City permit to run an electric line down Femwood Avenue. The I
Public Works Superintendent was disappointed with the restoration and NSP has assured the City
this will be corrected.
As part of issuing any permits to bury underground utilities in Arden Hills Street Right-of- Ways, I
Public Works personal now locate and mark any City water lines, sewer lines etc. Public Works I'
then meets with the permit applicant on sight and requires the applicant to keep his utilities at
least 8 feet, usually 10 feet, horizontally away from the City utilities.
This was brought about last winter when the City had two (2) water main breaks directly under I
electric cables. Public Works employees had to hand dig under the electric lines to make the
repairs. I
The Parks Director and the Public Works Superintendent will be meeting with the Federal
Emergency Management Agency this week trying to collect some of the City's losses resulting I
from the July 1, storms.
Public Works had about $1400 of eligible costs for equipment and employee overtime during I
and after the storm.
Street Projects I
Just a few items remain to be corrected on the 1996 Street Improvement Project and the 1997
project is also down to just a few items.
The slurry coat which the Public Works Superintendent wanted to try has been applied to I
Snelling Avenue South from Highway 96 to Briarknoll. The Superintendent recommends
evaluating the condition of the slurry coat after a year before using this technique on other roads I
as it costs more than the conventional seal coat.
. -'~ .
