-
-
-
CITY OF ARDEN HILLS
~'" MEMORANDUM
-
DATE: September 24, 1997
I TO: Brian Fritsinger, City Administrator VS:
I FROM: Dwayne Stafford, Public Works Superintendent
- SUBJECT: Monthly Department Head Report
Public Safety Commission .
.4
. The City of Arden Hills Public Safety Commission met on September 18, 1997. The graffiti and
traffic problems around Mounds View High School were discussed. The Commission asked that
the Public Works Superintendent send a letter to Ramsey County requesting that they clean up
. graffiti on County roads around the school as soon as possible, as this discourages repeat
paintings. This letter has been sent.
I Under new business the 1998 Street Improvements were discussed. It was pointed out by one
Commission member that the City seems to be jumping all over the City, rather than sticking to
I' one (1) area.
Also, discussed was a letter requesting street lights near Dawn Circle. The Commission did not
I recommend the City install lights in this area. Note: request was from a young (10-12) year old.
Public Works
. The City had tried all summer to get a realistic bid to replace four (4) areas of curbing removed
last winter while excavating for water main breaks. The latest bid is for $2700 to replace about
100 feet of curbing. Public Works elected to rent the forms and do the work in house. This was
I done at a cost of about $1500. It's not perfect, but its good and we are learning.
Graffiti is still a problem around the high school. The Public Works Department tries to get on it
I the next day if possible.
A portable chlorination device has been installed temporarily at the Bethel College lift station.
I Public Works StafIis monitoring it daily and the superintendent has been in close contact with
Mr. and Mrs. Sawtell on Hamline Avenue. So far so good; however, it has only been in
operation for two (2) weeks.
I Mike McKinney the lead person on the CII Water Meter change over has now visited nearly all
I of the cn Water users and assessed what will be needed to make each change. Mr. McKinney
has about 25 new meters in and running now and has really done a good job of scheduling and
I~ ordering materials and keeping track of readings on old meters as new ones are installed.
- ,..."0 '.....,;.,"'-.. ,.-
I
- ~
