-~-
I
I CITY OF ARDEN HILLS
I- MEMORANDUM
DATE: October 21, 1997
I TO: Brian Fritsinger, City Administrator
9).
FROM: Dwayne Stafford, Public Works Superintendent
I
SUBJECT: Month]y Department Head Report
I Public Safety Commission
The City of Arden Hills Public Safety Commission met on October 16,1997. Deputy Gary
I Wilzbacher of the Ramsey County Sheriffs Department Crime Prevention Unit gave a
presentation on several new programs his department is implementing.
I Regarding a request last spring for ordinances governing watercraft on Lake Josephine, the
Commission was provided copies of the new water ordinances for Lake Owasso and the Joint
I Powers Agreement between Shoreview and Roseville pertaining to those ordinances. The
Commission discussed the ordinances, but took no action at this time.
Ie Chairman Delger asked that the Commission consider trail crosswalks be painted and signs be
installed at street and trail crossings. This idea was discussed and no action was taken.
I Public Works Employees asked the Commission to consider and recommend to Council
installation of a stop sign on Northwoods Drive at Red Fox Road. This issue was discussed and
the Public Safety Commission recommended the Public Works Superintendent ask Council's
I approval for this sign.
Public Works
I Two (2) Public Works Employees worked at the Fall Clean-Up Day on Saturday, October 4.
Twice a year two (2) Public Works Employees work at this function.
I Approximately 50 CIl water meters have now been replaced or upgraded to the new radio read
system. Very few problems with the installations have occurred. Scheduling is the main issue as
I Public Works tries to do the installations during regular working hours.
The entire watermain system was flushed again during the first two (2) weeks of October with no
I complaints.
The maintenance on the south water tower has been completed and that tower is back in
I operation. During maintenance the tower was drained for nearly two weeks. After the work was
complete the tower had to be filled, disinfected, flushed, refilled, and the water tested for bacteria
.. before placing back in service.
I
