-
I
Public Works Employees repaired three (3) water main breaks during October. One (1) in the I
Pemtom Townhouse area south of City Hall and two (2) on Old Highway] 0 just north of County
Road E2.
The City snowplows and sanders were removed from storage this week and brought to the Public -I
Works Garage for installation. All plow equipment is stored under the south water tower during
the summer. I
Two hundred tons of deicing sand and 50 tons of salt were delivered this week to Public Works.
This is thcn mixcd in the Public Works yard at a ratio of four (4) sand to one (1) salt. MN Dot I
and some counties mix up to a one (1) to one (1) ratio and some even use straight salt. The City
typically uses about 600 tons of sand and 150 tons of salt each winter.
All Public Works Employees attended a snow plowing seminar this month at Anoka County Fair I
Grounds. People from all over the United States gave presentations on snow and ice control and
new products and equipment were on display. I
The temporary chlorinator installed at Bethel College still seems to be holding down the odor on I
Hamlinc A venue. Staff will have to meet with Bethel Officials to convince them to have a
permanent one installed and maintained at their cost.
The Public Works Superintendent has been working on Gateway issues with Staff, MSA, HKS, I
and BR W. It appears clearing for the street and utilities may start this week.
All Staff members are attending supervision and management training sessions at Century ..
College in Maplewood. The first of the six sessions was very informative. The remaining
sessions will be held about once a month. I
The Public Works Superintendent has given the new City Engineer, Greg Brown and the new
Construction Inspector, John Knauff, a tour of the City and presented them with a list of the I
superintendent's expectations relating to construction projects in the City.
NSP has returned to their project on Fernwood Avenue and corrected restoration problems as I
requested by the Superintendent. Hardrives has started correcting their problems on Cleveland
Avenue and County Road E2, but have not finished as of yet.
Walters Garbage and Recycling has contacted the Public Works Superintendent and assured the I
City that Walters has a new policy to deal with oil spills. The Public Works Superintendent has I
been in contact with them since July when one of their trucks blew a hydraulic hose, but
continued on their route spilling oil at each stop. This tends to soften the pavement.
City Staff members have noticed four (4) or five (5) contractors dumping dirt, boulders, etc. on I
City streets. In each case, this material was for residents landscaping projects. Mr. Scherbel
discussed the matter with the people involved and issued citations in some instances. I
The transition from MSA to BRW is not going smooth; therefore, creating more work for all ..
Staff.
I
