This mix enhances grass
diversity, which minimizes maintenance.
x If a forb only seed mix is being applied, a density of 0.5 lbs seed/ft2 is recommended.
x Some species that are too expensive to include in seed mixes but could be added as plugs include: pussytoes, common violet, and
wild petunia.
x All seed should be culti-packed following either broadcasting or drilling, except if seed is planted using a culti-packer modified to
plant native seed.
x Seed watering must occur consistently for the first three weeks after planting. Avoid heavy and infrequent water to ensure seed
establishment.
x Application of compost or an aquagel isrecommended to retain moisture during seed establishment.
x Avoid mowing for minimum of 3 weeks after seeding.
Woody understory seeding
x Seeds will be hand broadcasted evenly throughout all woodland units after the completion of the initial woody invasive removal.
x Seed mix should be based on approved BWSR seed mix matching the intended resulting ecosystem type
Turf to prairie seeding
x In areas of compacted soil, the area will need to have the top 6 inches tilled up to prepare the area for seeding.
x Seeding immediately follows site preparation.
x Seed is broadcast or drill seeded with equipment modified to plant native seed.
x Seed is not planted deeper than 0.25 inches deep.
x Small seed is broadcast directly onto the surface.
x All seed is culti-packed following either broadcasting or drilling, except if seed is planted using a culti-packer modified to plant native
seed.
Erosion control blanket
