Attachment F <br />MEMORANDUM <br />Date: March 4, 2026 <br />To: Town Board <br />From: GT Magnuson, Mechanic; Larry Poppler, Public Works Director <br />Re: Purchase of a Replacement 926 Caterpillar Front End -Loader <br />Requested Amount: $172,039.88 <br />Approved CIP Budget for 2026: $350,000.00 <br />Background: <br />The Public Works Department uses the current Front -End Loader year-round to assist <br />in many daily maintenance activities, including dirt work on the Town owned properties <br />(parks, outlots, storm drainage systems, etc.), forestry and snow removal operations <br />during the winter months. The current front-end loader is equipped with a front plow and <br />wing; the loader has its own plow route and is responsible for snow removal of 34 cul- <br />de-sacs and plows 9 short dead-end roads. The loader also is used for adding wood <br />chips to trails and playground areas, it is also equipped with a grapple bucket for tree <br />work and a set of pallet forks to handle larger loads. The Township would retain the <br />grapple bucket and pallet forks to be used with the new loader. Staff are recommending <br />replacement of the Caterpillar front-end loader due to age (the current machine is 17 <br />years old and has 2038 hours of operation). <br />Current snowplow with wing setup <br />Current Loader <br />The quote for the replacement Front-end loader, off the Minnesota State Contract, was <br />received from Zieglar Caterpillar with the amount of $172,039.88 inclusive of the trade <br />in of the existing loader. <br />
