Value to the Township:
• The current front end loader has served the Town well for 17 years but is
nearing the point where additional maintenance costs can be expected.
• The trade-in value proposed is a good value to the Township considering
its age.
Pricing was received through the state contract which saves over 30%
from the retail cost.
Other Options:
Retaining the existing loader is an option but it can be anticipated that there would be
additional maintenance costs and the trade in value would drop over time. Rental of a
loader year-round is estimated to be $75,480 per year. Staff researched used loader
options and two options were found. The best option was a 3 year old loader with 541
hours of operation for $229,700.
Recommendation:
The replacement loader is identified for purchase in the 2026-2035 Capital Improvement
Plan (CIP). This purchase would be funded by the Town's Equipment Fund. Caterpillar
has offered $60,750.00 trade-in for the current Caterpillar Front -End Loader with bucket
and plow with wing. Staff recommends the purchase of the Catepillar 926 loader and
that we accept the trade-in offer. The actual purchase amount for the Caterpillar 926
with a Metal Pless Snowplow is $172,039.88 with the trade in.
oft
New Metal Pless Snowplow
Requested Action:
Town Board action requested is to approve the purchase of a replacement
Caterpillar 926 Front -End Loader and the Metal Pless 1242-19LE Snowplow from
Zieglar Caterpillar for $172,039.88 and to accept the trade-in value of $60,750.00
for the Township's current Caterpillar 928HZ with bucket and plow with wing.
