. Interceptor Sanitary Sewer - a 50-inch diameter east-west flowing
c.
MCES interceptor passes along the northern and western boundary
of the segment at the edge of the flood plain between Lexington
Avenue and Interstate Highway 35-W.
d. Municipal Sanitary Sewer - an 8-inch diameter northward flowing
municipal sanitary sewer main follows the overhead electric
transmission lines and intersects with the MCES interceptor sewer.
e. County Road I - an east-west 24-foot wide improved County Road
separates the Shoreview segment from the Arden Hills segment.
The road is a minor arterial that connects Hamline Avenue with
Interstate Highway 35-W and U.S. Highway 10, and has an ADT
volume of 5400. The County Road I crossing of Rice Creek is a
timber and piling bridge.
f. Trailhead Parking Lot - an interim 10 car gravel parking lot located
west of Lexington Avenue provides parking for trail users.
g. Paved Bikeway - a 1.3 mile 10-foot wide bituminous path,
constructed by the City of Shoreview, runs southwestward from
Lexington Avenue to County Road I with neighborhood access spurs
to Fairview Avenue and Snelling Avenue. The path was constructed
. under a joint powers agreement with Ramsey County to accelerate
development of the regional trail segment. Generally, the path
followed the alignment of an existing dirt service road.
A 0.35 mile 10-foot wide bituminous path runs northward from the
trailhead parking lot through an underpass under Lexington Avenue
at Rice Creek and parallel to the east side of Lexington Avenue to
County Road J.
h. Bridges - four bridges cross the channel of Rice Creek within the
segment (County Road J, Lexington Avenue, and County Road I).
The bridges do not impede canoeing. The road bridge at Lexington
Avenue also has a pedestrian underpass.
i. Farm Building Foundations - foundation remnants from farmstead
buildings (e.g. silo, barn, sheds, house) are respectively located
approximately 500 feet westward of the existing Lexington Avenue
trailhead parking lot, and 175 feet north of County Road I
immediately west of the paved trail constructed by the City of
Shoreview. Archaeologists from the University of Minnesota have
estimated that the farmstead located near Lexington Avenue dates
back to the early-or-mid-20th century, and the farmstead located
near County Road I dates between the mid-19th and early-20th
centuries.
. The remains of the farmstead structures will be further inventoried
and investigated to evaluate their historical significance. Depending
VI-23
