<br /> Requested Action
<br /> The City Council is asked to consideT the following appointments for calendaT year 1998,
<br /> Background
<br /> I have contacted, or attempted to contact, the Chairperson of each of the identified
<br /> Commission/Committees/Task Forces to confirm their service as Chairperson fOT 1998, These
<br /> groups have served the City well in 1997, and I do not have any Commissions/Committees
<br /> which, at this time, to which I would recommend substantial changes,
<br /> However, there are some issues which warrant additional discussion by the City Council as we
<br />. move into 1998, The City has previously committed to using the Town Hall meeting, Council
<br /> and Department Head Retreat, and the Budget process to assist with the establishment of City
<br /> project priorities, It may be appropriate for additional task forces to be created in 1998 to
<br /> address projects identified as part of the goal setting process, I would ask the City Council to
<br /> Teconsider the existing structure of our Commissions/Committees/Task Forces as part of the
<br /> 1998 Retreat.
<br /> The City Council should also note that the professional consultant list is broader than in past
<br /> years, As a result of several complex projects in 1997, the City has had a need to use vaTious
<br /> firms for additional professional expertise not available with other appointed consultants. Staff
<br /> suggested Council consideration of the appointment of these other firms to allow for greateT
<br /> selection opportunities, should the need arise.
