,
CITY OF ARDEN HILLS
. MEMORANDUM
DATE: January 5, 1998
TO: M,yo< "d C;<y C",,;1 ~
FROM: Kevin Ringwald, Community Development Directo
SUBJECT: Agreement for Curbside Recycling Services - 1998 an 1999
Relluest
The City Council is requested to authorize the Mayor and the City Administrator to execute the
curbside recycling services agreement (I 998 and 1999) with E-Z Recycling (Exhibit A).
Back!!:round
Attached to this memorandum the City Council will find the curbside recycling service
agreement with E-Z Recycling for the calendar years of 1998 and 1999, which has been executed
by E-Z Recycling. The contract would continue weekly service for the City at the same price it
paid during the 1996- I 997 contract period, which was $4,714 per month.
. As the City Council will remember, in the 1996-1997 contract the City modified the payment
structure from a tonnage formula ($85 per ton) to a set monthly cost ($4,714 per month). The
1996-1997 contract, through November of 1997, has saved the City $10,394.05 from the
previous contract arrangement (Exhibit B). Also, the new payment structure has allowed the
City to more accurately predict the costs ofrecycling for budgeting purposes.
Budget Impact
The City's 1998 budget anticipated no increase in the cost for recycling services in 1998. The
proposed contract provides for no increase in cost for those recycling services.
Recommendation
Authorize the Mayor and the City Administrator to execute the attached curbside recycling
service agreement with E-Z Recycling for the calendar years of 1998 and 1999.
.
