.
4. Resource Management
a. Management should be primarily directed at providing recreational
travel opportunity.
b. Management should be directed at protecting and enhancing natural
resource features incorporated within the corridor.
c. Management should be directed at enhancing visual and aesthetic
aspects of corridors utilizing man-made features to minimize impact
on neighboring property owners and maximize recreation experience
of users.
5. Use
a. Primary trail activities are: hiking, biking, ski-touring, horseback
riding and snowmobiling. Other uses may be appropriate. Multi-
modal and multi-seasonal use should be a primary objective.
b. All-mode use of corridors is preferred. However, three-use segments
may be designated (e.g., hiking, biking, ski-touring). Two use
segments are permitted only when alternative routes for a third use
are available and/or the corridor cannot support more than two uses .
due to physical constraints (e.g., poor soil and slope characteristics,
lack of appropriate surface for retaining snow for ski-trails).
c. Use should be controlled to confine users to trail corridors and
prevent intrusion of incompatible users.
d. Multi-modal use of a corridor should be determined by carrying
capacity of the resource, compatibility of potential trail users, and
compatibility of trail users and adjacent land use.
e. Use by a specific mode should begin or terminate only at a regional
trailhead facility or state or federal recreation land.
f. Trail corridor rules and regulations should be consistent throughout
the regional system.
6. Physical Development
a. Trail design and development should be consistent with accepted
trail standards.
b. Separate trail "tread ways" for different uses should be developed
when necessary.
.
II 1-2
--- -- -------.---
