CITY OF ARDEN HILLS
. MEMORANDUM
DATE: January 22, 1998
TO: Mayor and City Council \
FROM: Cindy S. 'Walsh, Parks and Recreation Director ~\J
SUBJECT: January Parks and Recreation Monthly Report
Tonv Schmidt Park
The proposed redevelopment plan will be reviewed by the Planning Commission on February 4,
The plan will then come to the City Council for approval on February 23. [fthe Council would
like to further urge the County to include additional boat trailer parking, please let me know as
soon as possible. From the resident comments that I have heard, [ would recommend additional
trailer parking be added to the proposed lot.
Plavground Request For Proposals (RFP's)
[have sent out play ground structure RFP's for Cummings and Freeway Parks. Residents from
. these areas will be invited to the Parks and Recreation Commission meeting in February to give
feedback and aid in selecting the structure,
Parks and Recreation Commission
The Commission will meet on January 27 to begin discussion regarding the Parks and Trail
Comprehensive Plan, Kathy O'Connell from MFRA will be in attendance. They need to begin
to think about policies and goals for the plan as well as trail connections,
At their last meeting, the Commission had a discussion about cross-walk striping, The members
believe that all street areas where trails cross, should be striped, The white striped cross walk
alerts vehicles to slow down, The Public Safety Commission does not seem to think that it is
important to stripe the road areas. A member of the Public Safety Commission will be invited to
the February Parks and Recreation Commission meeting to discuss this issue further.
Hazelnut Park Parking Lot
I met with Rev. Byron Northwick to discuss the parking lot agreement that Trintiy Lutheran
Church has with the City. The original agreement was drawn up in 1981. Rev. Northwick has
never seen the actual agreement. Overall, the church is happy with the arrangement, The City
does sweep the parking lot, picks up brush occasionally, and mows the area that the church lets
us use for a soccer field, Since [ was not involved in setting up the arrangement, I wanted to
review it with the church to be sure that we are both satisfied, I will be talking with Rev,
Northwick again in the near future,
.
--------- --
