CITY OF ARDEN HILLS
MEMORANDUM
e DATE: January 22, 1998
TO: Brian Fritsinger, City Administrator
FROM: Dwayne Stafford, Public Works Superintendent 0S,
SUBJECT: Monthly Department Head Report
Publie Safety Commission
The City of Arden Hills Public Safety Commission met on January 15, 1998. Councilmember
Malone gave the Oath of Office to all the Commission Members and the new chairman of the
Arden J.lills Public Safe tv Commission; Mr. John Tholen, who then took over and thanked
outgoing Chairman Arnold Delger for his service to the Commission.
The City Engineer, Mr. Greg Brown was present and gave the Commission his background from
college through Desert Storm up to his current involvement with BRW. Commission Members
then asked a few questions; mostly street related, which Mr. Brown answered.
The Public Works Superintendent updated the Commission on the proposed Lake Josephine
ordinances, City Attorney, Jerry Filla has drafted a Joint Powers Agreement and ordinances, as
. requested by the Lake Josephine Improvement Association, pertaining to Lake Josephine, This
material has now been sent to the Roseville City Attorney for his evaluation.
Mr. Craig Wilson has taken the Safety Survey Sheets returned from Arden Hills residents and
separated them into categories. Residents wishing to address the Public Safety Commission will
be invited to do so starting with the Public Safety Commission's March meeting.
The Public Safety Chairman, Ramsey County Deputy Sheriff John Tholen, asked the
Commission to support the request of Ramsey County Sheriffs Department for the installation
of stop signs on Dunlap Avenue at Tiller. Chairman Tholen noted several accidents have
occurred at this location, one of which had injuries. The Commission unanimously supported
that request.
Public Works
The Public Works Department now has over 130 new CII Water Meters installed. The crew had
their first opportunity to read the new radio read meters automatically for the first quarter billing
this month, and all is satisfactory. The City does not have the necessary software to download
the readings to an automatic billing machine as of yet; however, the City has ordered new
computers, which can accept this software, Currently, the readings from the hand held reader are
manually transferred to the billing department,
. Several more snowfalls have been plowed and this has went well, except for some plow break
downs, nothing serious. Last year Public Works started hooking the snow out of cul-de-sac
driveways where the driveways really take a hit. This resulted in several calls and letters
thanking the Public Works Department for the extra effort,
---.---- -
-----
