I I. This a1temative is located along the same general alignment that has been proposed for the recreational trail connection between Highway 96 and 14th Street. A bituminous trail could I easily be constructed along the easement and provide excellent access for City maintenance staff as well as a recreational resource for the City. The impact on existing vegetation necessary for trail construction only (assuming sanitary sewer would not be constructed) in this corridor would I be significantly less (approximately 10 feet to 15 foot wide cut versus a 30 to 40 foot cut). Estimated construction costs included with this report assume dewatering of the trench. I Exhibits 4 and 5 illustrate the alignment and a typical section of the Alternative C. I Caoitalized Cost Calculation Costs associated with the gravity sewer main include the initial construction cost and periodic I maintenance costs over the 60 year design life. Maintenance costs include labor costs for City staff as well as costs for maintenance services which may be performed under contract in the future. Actual amounts utilized in the cost comparison are based upon current wage rates for I City maintenance personnel and current costs for contracted cleaning and sealing services. Maintenance costs assume that City staff will clean the sewer main once every five years and I that each cleaning would require 32 man-hours. Equipment costs for cleaning have not been included. It is assumed that the City would contract televising, cleaning and joint testing and I- sealing for the sewer main at year 30.
