.
CITY OF ARDEN HILLS
e MEMORANDUM
DATE: February 17, 1998
TO: Mayor and City Council !. .)
FROM: Cindy S. Walsh, Parks and Recreation Director Li) l
SUBJECT: February Department Report
Parks and Recreation Commission
The Commission spent the majority of their January meeting disCLlssing the Comprehensive Park
and Trail Plan. Kathy O'Connell from MFRA was present to provide information about the
content and purpose for the plan. The Commission will receive some Comp Plan information in
rough draft form to review for the February and March meeting.
The Commission and staff will meet with residents around Freeway and Cummings Parks
regarding play structure equipment at their Febntary 24 meeting.
Play structure Equipment Proposals
. I have received proposals for Freeway and Cummings parks from four companies. Residents
from these areas will be reviewing the stntctures and giving me feedback at the meeting on
February 24. The Parks and Recreation Commission will also have an opportunity to provide
feedback at this meeting. I plan to make a decision with regards to which stntctures to order by
the end of February.
Dav in the Park
The event is scheduled for Hazelnut Park on Saturday, June 6. Tracy and I are working on
scheduling the events. I did talk with several people from the Roseville Circulator about picking
up people at various parks to taking them to Hazelnut Park. The message I received was that
their routes are set and not subject to change of events.
Round Lake Trail Environmental Assessment Statement (EAS)
I have completed the City's portion of the EAS. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is in the
process of reviewing the request for a right-of-way permit. I hope to hear back from them by
April. It has not been decided if Welsh or the City would construct the trail, but trail
construction cannot begin until the City receives approval.
County Road F Grant
I am planning to resubmit the request for funding from the DNR for the trail along County Road
F. The trail would be designed directly behind the curb due to wetland, trees, and landscape
. issues that exist. The DNR has indicated that although it was not funded last year, the project did
rank high.
