CITY OF ARDEN HILLS
. MEMORANDUM
DATE: February 18, 1998
TO: Brian Fritsinger, City Administrator
FROM: Dwayne Stafford, Public Works Director .Oc;
SUBJECT: Monthlv Department Head Report
Puhlic Safety Commission
The City of Arden Hills Public Safety Commission will be meeting on February 19, 1998.
Commission Chairmen, John Tholen has provided the Commission with a copy of New Brighton
Emergency Preparedness Plan. He has also arranged for Mr. Bill Hughes from the Ramsey
County Department of Emergency Services to attend our meeting. The Public Works Director
has asked the Commission to use this and any other information available to come up with an
emergency plan for Arden Hills.
The Public Works Director has also contacted ACE Solid Waste and BFI Employees, who gave
the Director some ideas on standardizing garbage pickup dates. The Director will provide this
information to the Commission and ask that they start the ground work to accomplish this task.
. Gateway
The Gateway sewer and water project has been idle this month. Public Works has received
several complaints on the condition of 13th Street, where the new sewer line excavation crossed,
and Lametti has been dealing with this issue.
Rehbein Excavating has been hauling clean sand in and stock piling for Phase II, III, and IV
construction.
Puhlic Works
The new plow truck ordered in August, 1997, has been delivered and brought to Kimball, MN
for installation of the dump box, plows, and sander. Completion is expected by April 15, 1998.
This will give the City three plows with wing blades. Public Works will place their 1984 Ford in
the State Surplus Auction next fall.
Lack of snow this year has enabled Public Works to do other tasks. Currently, they are
rebuilding some of the problem hydrants.
Water meter installation has slowed down, as the remaining meters are those which are hard to
schedule. Some instances, it is hard to get someone to accept responsibility to allow water to be
shut off. Some meters affect several businesses etc. About 160 meters have now been installed.
.
