Memorandum, City Hall Status .
Page Six
March 23, 1998
With a short-term lease proposed by CDS, there is little opportunity to extend the
lease. If the CDS site were selected, the City Council should create a "drop dead"
date whereby the City would need to begin design of a new facility on a different
site or consider other options. A secondary process to begin with the selection of
CDS, would be an evaluation of options should the land transfer not occur by the
drop dead date.
In order to be out of CDS by December 31, 1999 and take advantage of winter
bidding for the project, the City will need to identify a date of approximately
September 1, 1998 as the drop dead date.
In the case of a long-term lease like Round Lake, the City has greater flexibility in
case of delays in the land transfer process.
. Meetin\l" Space
The leasing of space does present an opportunity for the City Council to bring the
City Council and Planning Commission meetings back into the community. The
Round Lake site is more capable of housing these meetings than CDS. .
.
Requested Action
The Council is asked to provide direction to staff on how it wishes to proceed with the concept of
temporary leasing space for City Hall. Based on the two options investigated, and a consensus of
the Council that Sunfish Lake will not be available by September 1, 1998, staff would then
recommend the space at 4364 Round Lake Road.
BF/sls
.
