CITY OF ARDEN HILLS . MEMORANDUM DATE: April 24, 1998 TO: Mayor and City Council FROM: Brian Fritsinger, City Administrato~ SUBJECT: Staff Reorganization Background The City Council, at its April 20, 1998 Worksession, discussed the reorganization of City statY. This discussion included the duties of existing staff members and the creation of other new positions. - The City Council had identified that it was supportive of the reorganization and creation of the following positions: . Assistant to the City Administrator . Associate Planner . . Half-time Building official . Support Clerk/Secretary Staff continues to refine the positions based on the conversations with the City Council, but is prepared to request action on three organizational issues. 1. Creation of Assistant to City Administrator Position 2. Creation of Associate Planner Position 3. Study of Pay Plan Assistant to the City Administrator The Assistant to the City Administrator will be responsible for coordinating special projects as assigned by the City Administrator. Projects will be in the areas of economic development, administration, legislative, and intergovernmental relations, as well as other areas. Based on the conversations at the 1998 Retreat, the creation of this position is a direct result of the goals/projects which were prioritized by the City Council. The position would be created with a two (2) year appointment in mind, with further consideration of its extension at that time. This position is expected to be filled through an internal posting process, and will have a typical six (6) month probation associated with it. Until such time that the pay plan is re-evaluated, a specific salary range and points cannot be determined. However, based on the existing plan, a . range of $42 - $56,000 would be realistic.
