Case #98-10, Special Use Permit Amendment, U.S. 'Vest 'Vircless, 1777 14th Street NE Request. The applicant requests approval of an amendment to a Special Use Pelmit (SUP) to facilitate the addition of pes telephone array to an existing tower (the Vaughan tower) in the Gateway Business District (Exhibit A). Background. The Vaughan tower (owned by Dan Vaughan) is cun'ently operating under an existing SUP 81-5 (Exhibit B). SUP 81-5 gave the owncr thc ability to construct a "...700 foot tall two-way radio communication tower providing transmitter capability for not only . private entities but also public agencies in need of communication coverage ,..", subject to six (6) conditions. The applicant is requesting to add a pes telephone antenna array to the existing \'aughan tower. The antenna to provide 360 degree coverage has threc groups of antenna's 120 degrees apart fi.om one anotber to create the array. Tbese three groups would be placed 50 leet, 60 feet, and 70 feet in height around the Vaughan tmver, whicb is 700 feet in height. The Zoning Ordinance in Section VJ, T, 3, b, states that no antenna or tower shall exceed 75 teet in height. Therefore, the proposed antenna array meets the height requirement. The equipment on the grOlltld which SUppOlts the antenna array will be contained within the existing fenced area for the VaLlghan tower. The equipment cabinet is 2.5 feet in width, 3.5 feet in depth, and 14 teet in height. The height of the cabinet is similar to thc height of the existing equipment within the fenced area. The applicant has had a structur,d analysis completed for the Vauglwn Tower, with the proposed pes telephone array (starts at Exhibit A, page 8 of 59). The engineering company states that the tower, with the proposed pes telephone array, appears to be structurally sound with the following modi lication: "Elevation 110' - l30' and 170' - 190', modify the existing single laced bracing pattern by installing additional bracing to result in a double laced bracing pattern upon completion.
