"
MINUTES
CITY OF ARDEN HILLS, MINNESOTA
PLANNING COMMISSION
. WEDNESDAY, MAY 6,1998
7:30 P.M. - NEW BRIGHTON CITY HALL
CALL TO ORDER
Chair Erickson called the meeting to order at 7:35 p.m.
ROLL CALL
Present were Chair Steve Erickson, Commissioners Terri Duchenes, Therese
Galatowitsch, Gregg Larson, Marty Rye (arrived at 7:38 p.m.) Brent Nelson, and Dave
Sand.
Also present were: Councilmember Dale Hicks, Community Development Director
Kevin Ringwald, and Recording Secretary Salima Khakoo.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES FROM PLANNING COMMISSION MEETING HELD ON
APRIL 1. 1998
Larson moved, seconded by Sand to approve the April 1, 1998, minutes. The motion
. carried unanimously (6-0).
CASE #97-24A - ARL YN SOLBERG- 3232 NORTH HAMLINE A VENUE- SIDE YARD
SETBACK VARIANCE
Mr. Kevin Ringwald, Community Development Director, explained the applicant is requesting
approval of a Variance for a side-yard setback for a house addition (three feet proposed, when 10
feet is required) on a single family lot zoned R-l.
Mr. Ringwald stated that the applicant had requested a Variance to construct a house addition to
the northeast side of the home and an attached deck directly south of the proposed house addition
in November 1997. The Planning Commission of November 5,1997, recommended denial of
the side yard setback variance for the attached deck. On November 10, 1997, the City Council
denied the side yard setback variance for the attached deck. The applicant attended neither of
these meetings, due to being out of the country. The applicant waited the necessary six months
to make application for a new variance and come before the Planning Commission.
Mr. Ringwald stated that the applicant has eliminated the proposed deck from this proposal and
has reduced the size of the house expansion to match with the existing basement wall which is
beneath the steps to the house. Staffbclieves that these reductions taken by the applicant
minimize the request to the greatest extend possible.
. Commissioner Rye arrived at 7:38 p.m.
