.
CITY OF ARDEN HILLS
MEMORANDUM
DATE: August 25,1998
TO: Brian Fritsinger, City Administrator
FROM: Dwayne Stafford, Public Works Director "y)
SUBJECT: 1999 Street Improvements
Request
The City of Arden Hills Public Works Director requests the City Council adopt Resolution
#98-56 authorizing the City Engineer, (BRW) to prepare a Feasibility Report for the City of
Arden Hills 1999 Street Improvement Program.
Backeround
The City of Arden Hills will be reconstructing West Round Lake Road in 1999 which may use
all of, or most of, the monies appropriated for street improvements in 1999.
. As a result, staffrecommends that a Feasibility Report for any additional work include only
necessary seal-coating and a study on the necessary steps to complete the reconstruction oftwo
streets which were recommended for improvements in the 1997 and 1998 Feasibility Report.
Those streets are:
North Snelling Avenue from Arden Place to the Cul-de-Sac, where it appears a portion of
the street was constructed outside of the right-of-way by as much as 60 feet, and;
North Hamline Avenue from County Road E North to dead end. This street may need
additional Right-of-Way to accommodate existing fire hydrants and an acceptable
turnaround on the North end.
Although some of these problems had been previously identified, no solutions had been offered.
Staff believes these issues should be brought out and discussed with council so decisions can be
acted on to insure these streets are ready for improvements as monies become available.
Recommendation
The Public Works Director recommends the City Council adopt Resolution #98-56 ordering the
City Engineer (BRW), to prepare a Feasibility Report in the matter of the 1999 Street
Improvement Project.
.
n_
