MEMORANDUM <br /> DATE: August 31, 1998 <br /> TO: Mayor and City Council <br /> FROM: K"" R",w'Id, A",,,,,, t, th, Ctty Adml,;,t"to~ <br /> SUBJECT: <br /> Activities Au~ust of 1998 <br /> The following summarizes some of the activities undertaken in August of 1998. <br /> Community Development <br /> I have been assisting the Community Development Director with the continuing transition of <br /> duties. Additionally, I assisted with the interview process for the new departmental secretary <br /> (Susan Holmes). <br /> Comprehensive Plan update <br /> The Planning Commission will meet on Wednesday, September 2, 1998 at 6:00 p.m. to continue <br /> to discuss the update to the Comprehensive Plan. At this meeting, will be receiving the final <br /> drafts of the Transportation Element, Housing Element, and Public Facilities Element. The <br /> . principal discussion will center on the Natural Resource Element. The regular Planning <br /> Commission meeting will start at 8:00 p.m. following the worksession. <br /> Economic Development <br /> 1. Gateway Business District. The landscaping is going in on Phases II, III, and IV of the <br /> Welsh Development. The landscape screening of Round Lake for Phases I, IT, III, and IV <br /> are currently being installed. The Staff is continuing to work with the developer on the <br /> green stripe on Phase IV (light green vs dark green) and anticipate that this will be <br /> resolved within the next week. Additionally, the lights are now hooked up on Phases II, <br /> III, and IV and the Staff will be doing a night time inspection the week of August 24th to <br /> insure compliance with the City Code. <br /> Discussions are continuing regarding the development of the Morris Communications <br /> site. They are currently two parties who are showing continued interest on the site <br /> (Northco and Welsh). The Staff will keep the City Council appraised of the progress <br /> made in the discussions with these potential developers. <br /> 2. Business Development Committee. The Business Development Committee (BDC) <br /> continues to work on the LexingtonIFox Study. The BDC has been receiving feedback on <br /> the plan and has been evaluating potential modifications to the plan. Additionally, the <br /> BDC has requested that the Finance Committee review the advantages and disadvantages <br /> of establishing a Tax Increment Finance (TIF) district over all or part of the study area. <br /> . <br />
