-------
There is an interested buyer for the Tony Anderson property on Lexington Avenue. Staff has e
informed the individual that the homes need to be demolished and that the City intends to
proceed with condemnation and demolition.
There are a few residents on Forest Lane that believe that the City is being too harsh with Mr.
Nixon (1369 Forest Lane). They may make an appearance at the August 31 City Council
meeting to express their concern. Staff feels that Mr. Nixon has been given more than adaquate
time to take care of the situation. The Judge has agreed with the City and supports the
demolition.
Buildin!! InsDection
Dave Scherbel has been working on the Bethel plans for expansion. Staff expects all permits
from Bethel to be pulled in 1998.
In the month ofJuly, there was a total of$7,073 in permit fees collected. Mr. Scherbel has
inspected the following in July: 45 buildings, 28 plumbing, 12 mechanical, 4 sewer, and 5 water.
There were no new commercial remodeling projects in July.
Planning
Nancy Randall has been preparing for the September 2 Planning Commission meeting. There are
two variance cases on the agenda. The Planning Commission will meet at 6:00 p.m. to discuss
the Comprehensive Plan and at 8:00 p.m. for regular Planning Commission meeting.
Recreation Program Report .
* Tracy worked with the Cities of Shore view and New Brighton to host a Safety Camp on
August 12 and 13. There were 110 participants for this event.
* Fall soccer league registration is in progress for grades 1-8. The league begins August 31.
* The fall recreation guide was distributed to the residents the week of August 10.
* Fall adult softball leagues begin August 25.
* Tracy and I have been working with the Mounds View School District to develop a ball girl
program with the Mounds View Varsity Soccer team. We will identify girls in 4th and 5th
grade who would be interested in attending the home soccer games and helping out the varsity
players. We think that it is a good opportunity to provide mentors to the younger girls and
keep them active in soccer.
* Tracy will be working on hiring fall staff and implementing several after school programs.
Park Maintenance
The maintenance staff have been very busy trying to keep up with mowing the grass. This
summer's weather makes it necessary to mow some park areas twice a week. The staff have also
been trimming trees along trail areas. We try to do this at least twice a year.
With the increase in fall soccer registrations, we create a temporary soccer field in the outfield at
Cummings Park. This area is lined weekly for soccer games. We do not use the field during the
fall for softball. .
