CITY OF ARDEN HILLS
e MEMORANDUM
DATE: August 25, 1998
TO: Mayor and City Council
FROM: Cindy S. Walsh, Community Development Director (lffJ
SUBJECT: August Department Head Report
Parks and Recreation Commission
The Commission approved the proposed 1999 Park Fund Budget. They also moved approval of
the Trail Comprehensive Plan as ammended by the Planning Commission.
The Commission will not meet in August due to members being on vacation. The next meeting
will be September 29.
Bethel College
I have been meeting with Craig Hjelle from Bethel College about the possibility of sharing some
park facilities. The City Council will be hearing more about the opportunities available at future
meetings.
. County Road E Pedestrian Bridl:e
I met with representatives from MnDot to discuss the possibility of adding a pedestrian walkway
on to the existing bridge along County Road E that crosses Ham1ine/Snelling Avenue. There are
a couple of different funding options. MnDOT staff will get back to the City on which options
have the greatest chance of funding.
Ramsev County Soccer Facilitv
Ramsey County is in the process of identifying potential sites for a soccer complex. The Ranlsey
County Commission has directed staff to take on this project because of the shortage of soccer
fields in St.Paul and the surrounding suburbs. From recent meetings, it is my understanding that
the County may find property, but not necessarily fund the facility. They are not interested in
putting money into single soccer fields in the area cities.
Gateway Trail
Welsh Constmction has cleared the trail area along Phase 1. They intend to pave the area as soon
as weather allows. I have asked BRW to inspect the project to be sure it meets our standards.
Code Enforcement
The resident on 1875 Lake Lane has written a letter to Dave Scherbel indicating that she has
cleaned up the property and intends to sell the house. Although she has made significant
. improvements, she still needs to bring the house up to code. The Council may see this as an
agenda item for September 14 as staff considers how to proceed.
