CITY OF ARDEN HILLS <br /> MEMORANDUM <br /> DATE: August 31, 1998 <br /> TO: Mayor and City Council <br /> FROM: Brian Fritsinger, City Administrator ~ <br /> SUBJECT: New City Hall Project <br /> Reauest <br /> The City Council is asked to provide direction related to the preparation of construction plans for <br /> the new City Hall project. <br /> Background <br /> The City most recently began the process of planning for the new City Hall two years ago, in the <br /> fall of 1996, At that time, the City solicited proposals for architectural services for the design of <br /> a new facility, <br />. What was the Basis for the Proposal? <br /> The project was described as part of the Request for Proposals (RFP) , The RFP was prepared <br /> utilizing the information which had been completed in 1992 as part of the original City Hall <br /> planning efforts, The proposed facility would be approximately 10,000 square feet in size with a <br /> project cost not to exceed $1,770,000, This cost estimate included all service fees, engineering, <br /> site work, permits, materials, furnishings, and related building costs, <br /> The estimated costs were further broken down as follows: <br /> . Building/Site Preparation $1,250,000 <br /> . Furniture/Fixtures 325,000 <br /> . Cable System 125,000 <br /> . Phone System 70 000 <br /> $1,770,000 <br /> Spacc Nceds Study <br /> The first exercise, completed in 1997, was an updating ofthe space needs study, The original . <br /> space needs study, completed in June, 1992, identified a building area of 10,592 square feet. The <br /> 1997 exercise involved site visits to other City Halls and discussions with a City Council <br /> Subcommittee, including Councilmember Aplikowski and Mayor Probst. The conclusion was a <br /> facility of approximately 16,000 square feet, <br />. <br />
