CITY OF ARDEN HILLS MEMORANDUM DATE: August 31, 1998 TO: Mayor and City Council FROM: Brian Fritsinger, City Administrator ~ SUBJECT: New City Hall Project Reauest The City Council is asked to provide direction related to the preparation of construction plans for the new City Hall project. Background The City most recently began the process of planning for the new City Hall two years ago, in the fall of 1996, At that time, the City solicited proposals for architectural services for the design of a new facility, . What was the Basis for the Proposal? The project was described as part of the Request for Proposals (RFP) , The RFP was prepared utilizing the information which had been completed in 1992 as part of the original City Hall planning efforts, The proposed facility would be approximately 10,000 square feet in size with a project cost not to exceed $1,770,000, This cost estimate included all service fees, engineering, site work, permits, materials, furnishings, and related building costs, The estimated costs were further broken down as follows: . Building/Site Preparation $1,250,000 . Furniture/Fixtures 325,000 . Cable System 125,000 . Phone System 70 000 $1,770,000 Spacc Nceds Study The first exercise, completed in 1997, was an updating ofthe space needs study, The original . space needs study, completed in June, 1992, identified a building area of 10,592 square feet. The 1997 exercise involved site visits to other City Halls and discussions with a City Council Subcommittee, including Councilmember Aplikowski and Mayor Probst. The conclusion was a facility of approximately 16,000 square feet, .
