WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 2, 1998 <br /> 7:30 P.M. - ARDEN HILLS CITY HALL <br /> CALL TO ORDER <br /> Chair Erickson called the meeting to order at 8:02 p.m. <br /> OATH OF OFFICE <br /> Councilmember Aplikowski administered the Oath of Office to Stephen Baker for the <br /> office of Arden Hills Planning Commissioner. <br /> ROLL CALL <br /> Present were Chair Steve Erickson, Commissioners Stephen Baker, Therese <br /> Galatowitsch, Brent Nelson, and Dave Sand. <br /> Absent was Terri Duchenes and Marty Rye. <br /> Also present were: Councilmember Beverly Aplikowski, Assistant to the City <br /> Administrator Kevin Ringwald, Community Development Director Cindy Walsh, <br />. Associate Planner Nancy Randall, and Recording Secretary Lori Rolfson. <br /> APPROVAL OF MINUTES FROM PLANNING COMMISSION MEETING HELD ON <br /> AUGUST 5, 1998 <br /> Commissioner Sand moved, seconded by Commissioner Nelson to approve the August 5, <br /> 1998, minutes. The motion carried unanimously (5-0). <br /> CASE #98-22 - W AL TER AND SANDRA SCHAAR - 1932 GLENPAUL AVENUE- <br /> VARIANCE (CORNER SIDE YARD SETBACK) <br /> Ms. Randall explained the applicant is requesting approval of a corner side yard variance (25 feet <br /> proposed, when 40 feet is required) for a new garage on a single family lot zoned R-2. The <br /> applicant currently has a 594 square foot (22 feet by 27 feet) detached garage. The detached <br /> garage is currently 13 feet from the west property line. The applicant wishes to rebuild the <br /> existing detached garage at 720 square feet (24 feet by 30 feet). The rebuilt garage requires the <br /> corner side yard setback variance. <br /> Ms. Randall stated she received two letters of support for this variance from Marguerite Olsen, <br /> 1936 Glenpaul Avenue and Phyllis Weiss, 1933 W. County Road D. <br />. Ms. Randall advised that staffrecommends approval of Planning Case #98-22, comer side yard <br /> setback variance for the detached garage (25 feet proposed, when 40 is required) based on the <br /> "Findings - Comer Side Yard Setback Variance (detached garage)" section of the staffreport <br /> dated August 20, 1998.
