CITY OF ARDEN HILLS <br /> MEMORANDUM <br /> DATE; October 16, 1998 <br /> TO; Mayor and City Councilmembers <br /> FROM; Terrance Post, City Accountant @ <br /> SUBJECT; Public Works Facility Recommendations <br /> Rack~round <br /> The City Council had earlier charged the Finance Committee with evaluating various aspects <br /> regarding the concept ofajoint maintenance facility. Evaluation items were to include the <br /> financial viability of the City being the "lead" agency in such an undertaking, space <br /> requirements, and operational advantages/disadvantages. <br /> Mr. Stafford and Mr. Post made a site visit to the City of Hutchinson and reported back favorably <br /> to their respective committees on observations of an existing joint maintenance garage venture <br /> (Joint Powers Agreement) between the City of Hutchinson, McCloud County, and the Minnesota <br /> Department of Transportation. <br />. Committee Discussion <br /> The Finance Committee brainstomled at length at both their August and September meetings on <br /> the joint maintenance facility topic. They proposed to meet with the Public Safety Commission <br /> in ajoint meeting on October 15,1998 to gain additional perspective on the matter. <br /> Joint Committee Meetinr Actions <br /> After much discussion, the two committees adopted two resolutions at the October 15th meeting <br /> regarding the subj ect. The resolutions were as follows: <br /> 1. "Be it resolved that a task force be established to evaluate and recommend to the <br /> City Council options for a public works (maintenance) facility." This resolution <br /> was adopted unanimously. <br /> 2_ "We, the joint Finance and Public Safety Commissions, recommend that the <br /> maintenance facility be given the same priority as that given to the City Hall, and <br /> that funding options bc discussed by the Finance Committee." This resolution <br /> was adopted with one dissenting vote. <br /> Representatives from both committees are planning to be present and available for Council <br /> questions when this agenda item is discussed. <br />. <br />
