MEMORANDUM DATE: November 12, 1998 TO: Mayor and City Council FROM: Brian Fritsinger, City Administrat@ SUBJECT: 1999 Town Hall Meetin2, Tentative Plans Back~round The City Council recently directed staff to begin preparations for the third annual Town Hall Meeting. There are several areas of consideration for the City Council. 1999 Meetin~ Details The City Council discussed holding the meeting at Bethel College (Benson Great Hall) on Saturday, January 23,1999. Historically, we have held the meeting from 8:30 to 12:00 p.m. The City Council may wish to discuss the appropriateness ofthis time. Pu rpose/Goa Is Is, or should, the purpose/goal ofthe 1999 Town Hall Meeting be different than in past years? . . Solicit individuals to serve on Task Force for planning the 2000 Town Hall meeting? . Focus on adopted Comprehensive Plan and its goals for the next 10 years? . Less focus on City Hall? . Discussion on Phase II TCAAP Plan; show existing plan, identify the new process? . Focus on 1-35W Corridor Coalition; various projects; GIS examples . Tony Schmidt Park plans? . Arden Manor Park plans? . State of City address by Mayor? . Focus on philosophy statement? . Surveys on various City policies/issues (newsletter, snowplowing trails, streets, assessments)? . Public Q/A at table vs. Q/A in forum setting? . Roundtable on items of interest rather than by departments? . More involvement from existing committee members? Set lJ p . Same as last year? . Is there any reason to involve the business community more. They receive a copy of the meeting notice (using full saturation newsletter counts), but would an invitation from the City (i.e., Kevin, Administrator, Mayor/Council) make them feel more a part of the City? .
