Mr. Brian Fritsinger
. November 20, 1998
Page 3
4) Roadway Width: Alternative D includes the" construction of a 44 foot roadway with
a 6 foot wide sidewalk. Typical residential streets are 32 feet wide and do not include
sidewalks, Estimated additional cost $125,000,OO(Alt D),
5) Miscellaneous: The West Round Lake Road project includes estimated costs for
modifications to the three TCAAP monitoring wellheads, permanent signage, striping
and pavement markings which is more extensive than typical residential streets,
clearing and grubbing and removal of existing culverts, Estimated additional cost:
$70,000,00,
6) Storm Sewer: The West Round Lake Road project includes storm sewer
catchbasins for the roadway as well as catchbasins for the commercial driveways.
Overall pipe lengths are longer than typical residential streets and pipe diameters are
greater to handle the larger flows from roadway and business runoff, Estimated
additional cost: $85,000.
F.nl1ancements
Preliminary cost estimates for potential enhancements to the project have been included for your
information, The enhancements include streetlighting, landscape trees, landscape shrubs and
. irrigation system. Enhancements could be included with the base project or added to the
roadway at a future date. The irrigation system is assumed to provide irrigation to median areas
only and therefor would be necessary if Alternative B were chosen. Trees and shrubs could be
incorporated into either alternative however, it is likely that Alternative B would require more
landscaping due to the median areas. A major factor in selecting Altemative B would be the
desire to create an aesthetic corridor in which landscaping would playa major role, If the
Council selects Alternative B, the inclusion of irrigation and landscaping into the project at this
time should be strongly considered, The estimated cost landscaping trees and shrubs is based
upon typical plant materials at a uniform spacing. If the council elects to include landscaping in
the project, a more detailed range of landscaping alternatives and costs will be prepared for
approvaL
The estimate for pedestrian lighting is primarily intended to provide for lighting along the
sidewalk for pedestrian safety. This area is very dark at night and several property owners stated
that they would like to have some level oflighting for workers utilizing the side"-alk at night or
early morning. The City has not provided streetlighting or pedestrian lighting on city streets to
date.
.......
.
U:\WPDOCS"ARDENHIL'ROUNDLAK\.cOSTCO~tP.MEM
--.---
