MEMORANDUM <br /> DATE: November 24, 1998 <br /> TO: Brian Fritsinger, City Administrator <br /> FROM: Dwayne Stafford, Public Works Director YS' <br /> SUBJECT: Garba2e collection <br /> Back~round <br /> Over the past several years, Council and a number of Arden Hills residents have expressed their <br /> desire to limit the number of garbage collection days within the City. <br /> Currently, garbage haulers are making pick ups throughout the City, Monday thru Friday <br /> resulting in garbage standing along the curb on each of these days. <br /> The Public Safety Commission discussed this issue on at least three occasions and each time <br /> elected not to pursue limiting pick up days due to the possible affect this could have on rates. <br /> The City Council then requested that Staff complete additional investigation and report back to <br /> the City Council during 1998. <br /> . Survt:)' <br /> In May of 1998, the Public Works Department sent letters to each of the thirteen licensed haulers <br /> within the City asking their help in standardizing collection days within Arden Hills. <br /> Each hauler was asked: <br /> . The type of service they provide (residential-commercia1-dumpsters) <br /> . The number of customers they serve in Arden Hills <br /> . The number of customers picked up on each day of the week <br /> . The number of trucks they have in Arden Hills on each day of the week <br /> Nine haulers responded. Six residential and three commercial hau1ers.Those six residential <br /> haulers indicated a combined total of approximately 3398 customers in Arden Hills. <br /> A breakdown of residential pick ups and trucks in the City as identified by the Haulers is as <br /> follows: <br /> Monday 3 trucks 395 pick ups <br /> Tuesday 6 trucks 841 pick ups <br /> Wednesday 4 trucks 1082 pick ups <br /> Thursday 1 truck 295 pick ups <br /> .
