> Garbage Collection . Page 2 November 24, 1998 In September of 1998, the Public Works Department sent letters again to only residential haulers. The letter thanked those who participated in the survey and reported the results of that survey which are indicated above. Within this letter haulers were asked if they would support a voluntary change to, {Wednesday only} pick ups as one third of the residential pick ups (1082) currently occur on Wednesday as well as the recyclab1es which are collected on Wednesday. They were also asked if this change could be made by January 1, 2000. Of those four haulers who responded, one company, Waste Management of Blaine, (444 pick ups) indicated they would not support a change as the Wednesday only pick ups would reflect additional costs to the customer. Three companies; Walters (600 pick ups), BFI (1375 Pick ups), and Evergreen (145 pick ups), indicated they could make the change to Wednesday pick ups by January 1, 2000. Two of those three companies; Walters and BFI asked if two pick up days would be acceptable. Options These are some options that Council may consider; . . Pass an ordinance identifying Wednesday, or another day, as the official residential garbage pick up day in Arden Hills. . Pass an ordinance identifying two days each week as pick up days in the City (the City could be divided into north / south halves for example). . Make no changes to residential. Obviously, the City will not be able to adopt an ordinance before 1999 licensing takes place. The City may wish to include language in the re-1icense process identifying which option the City intends to pursue. Council Direction With this survey information, Staff asks the City Council to provide direction on how to proceed with implementing a single day or a two day residential garbage pick up policy. .
