<br />NM I-35W CORRIDOR COALITION <br />1998 ANNUAL REPORT <br /> <br />. Building Metropolitan Towns: joint <br />action that strengthen and create <br />connections - physical, social, and <br />economic - among member communities. <br />. Redefining Metropolitan <br />Competitiveness: cooperative strategies <br />that position the subregion to attract <br />economic development and support a <br />local economy that values and thrives in <br />livable communities. <br />. Ensuring Healthy Neighborhoods: <br />coordinated initiatives to build <br />neighborhoods that support individuals <br />and families throughout their life cycles. <br /> <br />Currently, the Coa1ition is building a <br />common base of information and data from <br />which it can coordinate planning and <br />implementation programs at the subregional <br />level The first and second phases of the GIS <br />initiative have been completed. This puts <br />into place the technological capability to <br />share information across political borders <br />and between departments and agencies. The <br />Coalition commissioned Stage 1 studies in <br />the areas of transportation, transit and land <br />use, housing, natural resources, <br />socioeconomic demographics, the <br />environment and community outcomes. <br /> <br />With the information obtained from these <br />studies along with data and applications from <br />the GIS initiative, the Coalition will continue <br />to refine and augment its subregional livable <br />community urban design and planning <br />framework and will begin to implement <br />subregional programs and policies. <br /> <br />Funding Through Strong Public and <br />Private Partnerships <br /> <br />"' <br />\ <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. In 1998 the Coa1ition received fhndine <br />assistance to implementation its Work <br />Plan from a variety of public and private <br />sectors. These partnerships validate the <br />importance of working together toward a <br />subregional model for pl""ning. The <br />funding partners include: <br />. Minnesota Legislature <br />. McKnight Foundation <br />. Metropolitan Council, through its <br />Livable Community Demonstration <br />Account and a grant to assist the <br />Coalition in its sub-regional planning <br />efforts <br />. MetroGIS to assist the Coalition <br />complete its Phase II GIS work plan <br />. MnDOT <br />. Ramsey County <br />. Northern States Power Co. <br />. Minnegasco . <br /> <br />In addition, the Design Center for American <br />Urban Landscape, University of Minnesota, <br />committed in-kind services to complete the <br />Coalition's' Comprehensive Livable <br />Community Urban Design and <br />Transportation Study - Phase I, Track 1 <br />Report. <br /> <br />Member Community Commitments l <br /> <br />Coalition members invested hundreds of <br />hours of staff time, membership dues and <br />thousand of do11ars of supplies and related <br />resources to initiate this effort.
