Showalter, AICP, AlA Senior Associate, Planning/Urban Design Experience Mr, Showalter is a project manager and urban designer with BR W. He is both an architect and city planner with 25 years of design and management experience, with emphasis on downtown revitalization and transit planning and design. Mr. Showalter's project experience includes numerous downtown revitalization and urban design studies, river corridor recreationl transportation studies, and station area and guideway planning for light rail transit and multimodal transportation centers. Transit and Transportation Design Major transit and transportation design projects in which Mr. Showalter was project manager or principal designer include: . 1-66 Corridor Major Investment Study evaluating the potential 10-mile extension of Metro Rail in northern Virginia as a component of future corridor transportation options. Primary tasks involved alignment and starion site selection, site planning and design for intermodaI integra- tion, and identification of joint development site potential, . Station planning and design of pedestrian and streetscape improvements for the construction of downtown Salt Lake City's first segment of its light rail transit system. . Station area planning and design for preliminary engineering of the Newark-Elizabeth Rail Link, a lO-mile, l6-station light rail line and its connection to Newark's existing city subway. Primary tasks involved selecting and evaluating station sites and integrating them with their context, developing intermodaI connections, and developing guidelines for public and private improvements within walking distance of stations. . 1-71 Corridor Major Investment Study evaluating light rail transit options for alignments and station sites along a 36-mile corridor through Cincinnati, OH, and Covington, KY metropolitan areas. . Renovation of the Nicollet Mall Retail and Pedestrian/Transitway in Minneapolis, MN. Bus transit facilities design and pedestrian improvements. . Completion of the West River Parkway Corridor through Minneapolis' Central Riverfront, a three-mile parkway with pedestrian and bicycle trails and creating continuous waterfront park lands connecting downtown with the University of Minnesota campus. .
