CITY OF ARDEN HILLS MEMORANDUM DATE: October 15, 1999 TO: Mayor and City Council &It. o.h ^ J Dave Scherbel, Building Officiall.~'1 ~ Code Enforcement Update FROM: SUBJECT: Arden tower Staff sent a letter to Mr. Dan Vaughan on September 17, 1999, relaying the public safety concerns City staff has regarding the tower. On October 8,1999, I had a meeting with Mr. Vaughan at City Hall. Mr. Vaughan requested review of the City files on the tower property, and did so at that meeting. Copies of specific file items were copied for Mr. Vaughan. Mr. Vaughan stated that he had a meeting with EEl Engineering on October 12, 1999, and wished to obtain all the information he possibly could on the tower. Mr. Vaughan also stated that he did not have any of the original construction documents that were part of Planning Case # 81-05. Mr. Vaughan also acknowledged that the tower was never originally designed for Yz" radial ice, and that he doubted the tower would meet current code, but was willing to do whatever it took to make the tower safe, including the rebuilding of the tower. Mr. Vaughan stated that he had already started to obtain quotes on the construction of a new tower. Staff comments Regarding the Arden tower, staff suspects the tower will not meet code and Mr. Vaughan will seek to rebuild tower. Perkins Restaurant The following is a brief update on the past history regarding the Perkins restaurant. The Fire Inspector for Lake Johanna wrote orders to post a no parking sign in front of the building's fire connection on July 14, 1999, to be completed by August 14, 1999. On August 17, 1999, the Fire inspector reinspected the property and found the sign had not been posted. On August 18, 1999, the Fire Inspector sent a second notice indicating that the sign was to be installed no later than September 17, 1999, or a citation would be issued. The sign was not posted as of September 18, 1999, and the Fire Inspector issued a citation on September 21, 1999.
