As you well know, effective service on the council requires a significant amount oftime. In recent months I have found that my professional responsibilities are requiring increasing amounts of effort, to the extent they are interfering with my ability to continue wim the duties required of my office. Much has been accomplished during the eleven years mat I've been on the council and it has been gratifying to have been a part of the advancements we have made. A great deal of the credit dearly belongs to you, as it has been your vision and drive that have kept our city on the path toward some very critical goals. The land plan for the arsenal, the acquisition of a new site for our city haIl, and me Gateway development have all resulted from your leadership and dedication. It has been an honor to have had the opportunity to work alongside you and I will miss that, along wim your friendship. Although I can be flexible in timing, my preference would be to make my resignation effective at the end of November so me council may have the time to choose a successor.
