. e e ARDEN HILLS PLANNING COMMISSION - FEBRUARY 2, 2000 DRAFT 9 Mr. Hagen presented color renderings of the two proposed restroom buildings. One restroom building will be located adjacent to the boat launch parking area, the other will be adjacent to the picnic shelter. The restroom building will use the same materials as the other buildings. A drinking fountain will be located at the front of the buildings and waiting benches will be located to the rear. Commissioner Galatowitsch asked what type of material will be used on the roof of the buildings. Mr. Hagen stated that the soffits will be cedar plywood, the fascia will be cedar and the roof will be red asphalt shingles. Chair Erickson asked if the walls will be a combination of rock face and burnished materials. Mr. Hagen stated that the walls will be of smooth and burnished materials. Chair Erickson asked what color the walls will be. Mr. Hagen stated that the walls will be dark tan. Chair Erickson requested confirmation that Ramsey County was moving away from manned concession stands. Mr. Mack stated that this was correct, although the Snail Lake and Long Lake Regional Parks still have manned concessions. He noted that the use of the parks have changed over time in that people use the parks for a much shorter period of time. Visitors to the park now tend to bring their own refreshments and Ramsey County has begun providing vending alcoves at all of its new facilities. Commissioner Galatowitsch asked ifthe proposed plan included grills. Mr. Mack stated that grills will be provided at each picnic shelter. Commissioner Galatowitsch asked if the grills will be located on the outdoor concrete pads. Mr. Mack stated that this was correct and that at the larger picnic shelter a grill will be provided inside. Additional grills will be provided in various locations though out the park. Commissioner Galatowitsch asked if the type of signage has been determined. Mr. Mack stated that standard park signage will be used. Commissioner Galatowitsch asked if the signage will match the proposed architecture and colors. Mr. Mack stated that the signs will not be a large expense. He indicated that the monument signs will be timber and the regulatory signs will be four by four foot panels painted with white lettering. Chair Erickson asked if the existing signs will be used. Mr. Mack stated that the older existing signs will be replaced. Chair Erickson asked if the regulatory sign at the boat landing will be reinstalled. Mr. Mack stated that it will be. Commissioner Sand asked what type oflighting will be used for security purposes. Mr. Mack stated that soffit lighting will be used and there may be more creative lighting used at the gazebo. He indicated that these lights may be on timers or may use motion detection. Commissioner Sand expressed concern regarding the security of the restrooms and asked if motion detection lighting will be used at these locations. Mr. Mack stated that the restrooms will be secured at night by Ramsey County staff and reopened in the morning. Commissioner Sand asked what the dark line shown on the plan that ran in front of the beach building was depicting. Mr. Mack stated that this line was a definition of the beach area.
