These are the 1991 Chevy Y2 ton pickuP and the 1987 Case
tractor backhoe.

The 1991 pickup is one of two (2) pickups in the Public Works fleet and is used daily by the
Public Works employees. The Public Works Department budgeted $22,000 for replacement
of this vehicle, which currently has 90,000 miles on it. The second pickup is primarily used
by the Public Works foreman.

The 1987 Case tractor backhoe was purchased, used, by the City in 1991. This is the
machine the City uses for sewer and water repair excavating, as well as loading salt and sand.
Between the loader bucket on the front and the backhoe bucket, this machine is probably the
most important machine in the fleet. The public Works Department budgeted $90,000 for
the replacement of this machine.

Minnesota Coo erative purchasin Venture CP
The City of Arden Hills pays $350 annually to maintain membership in the State Cooperative
purchasing Venture. This allowS the City to use State specifications and bid prices, resulting
in Arden Hills paying the same amount for a single piece of equipment as the State does for
numerous pieces. The State has employees who are dedicated to researching equipment,
preparing specifications and requesting bids for everything from office supplies to heavy
equipment. The discount is such, that a City buying a new piece of equipment off the State
bid (CPV), will typically pay less than buying a slightly used piece of equipment which was
not purchased off the State bid. Only Minnesota counties and cities are eligible for
membership in the cooperative purchasing venture.

e

e
