The placement of the
doors and windows as well as the shape of the house were of no particular issue, but the
lack of options for placement of the room and deck left us no choice. The kitchen is "U"
shaped, with cabinets and workspace filling the entire south end. The windows are
placed above the sink and cabinets to allow a view of the vista while preparing the days
repast, and the patio doors in the dining area bay out to reach into the evening sunset.
However, access to the yard requires a verticillleap of eight feet, and the landing is
sloped away from the house. The builder saw fit to install a long ledger (as per photo)
suitable for a deck.

Three steps down from the dining area is the family room. A large fireplace is the
dominant feature of this room, andit is flanked by two small casement windows, offering
a view of the neighbor's overgrowth! There was, you see, no other option for the
placement of the three and one half season room. No possible access can be built and no
other openings are available. The only choice is the patio doors on the rear. The shape of
the house, as you can see, lends itself to this design, and the room and deck flow well into
the house. Physically and architecturally there is no other place this room and deck can
be.
