<br />ARDEN HILLS PLANNING COMMISSION - OCTOBER 4, 2000 <br /> <br />10 <br /> <br />Planner handles such issues, but City Accountant Tell)' Post has been handling this issue and <br />other TIF issucs. <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />Commissioner Sand stated the economic development committee might be considered for <br />reinstatemcnt to focus on related development issues. <br /> <br />Commissioner Galatowitsch stated she would wish to sce the City become more aggrcssive in <br />these areas. Ms. Chaput stated she is the only person on staff to handlc cconomic development, <br />and her schedule is very limited. <br /> <br />Councilmember Larson staled that the City has talked in the past about filling the economic <br />development specialist position, adding there have been other prioritics in tcrms of budget. <br /> <br />Commissioner Sand stated that the City loses tax basc when such opportunities are missed. He <br />stressed that the City should have a serious interest in stimulating business development. <br />Councilmember Larson stated that the Council wanted Mr. Lynch to have the opportunity to <br />spend some time looking at staf1ing issues before forming opinions about whal positions should <br />be filled. <br /> <br />Ms. Chaput stated that the City does not have a Chamber of Commerce, adding she finds it <br />difficult to maintain close contact with businesses in lhe area. <br /> <br />Commissioner Baker stated the City should be wary about settling bonds on a new project with <br />the possibility oflosing a significant amount due to rate reductions associated with property tax <br />changes. Councilmcmber Larson stated that the City should discover ways of going out and <br />promoting areas. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Commissioner Galatowitscb asked whether thc ncw City logo had been decided upon. <br />Councilmember Larson slaled that the Council felt most comfortable with the top logo of the <br />three presented, adding that staff was working on adapting it to City amenities. He added he <br />hoped it would be presented again soon. <br /> <br />ADJOURNMENT <br /> <br />Commissioner Sand moved, seconded by Commissioner Duchcnes to adjourn the meeting at <br />8:47 p.m. The motion carried unanimously (5-0). <br /> <br />e <br />
